Branding

I’ve been very lucky to work with the talented and fabulous Nireesha Prakash to design the branding for Kleio. She had brought to the table some really inspired ideas and a wicked beautiful aesthetic for the product, which we’ve pulled into packaging as well. Here are some of our process images to date.
CAD Development

I have been tucked away in the CAD room for about a month now, slowly but surely refining my form. My skills with surfacing have grown by leaps and bounds- I never knew that Solidworks had such powerful tools for creating organic forms! Rhino might have been easier, but a trusted adviser mentioned that in a professional context, all the final product files will go through SW, as that’s what the Engineers will use to design tooling. I’m happy to know that I’ll have more control over final forms this way. Here are some images for you!
Solidworks

I’m taking CAD II this term, which will let me really boost my skills in Solidworks, and will also mean getting to do more 3d Printing. Over the past week or two, I’ve been trying to learn Surfaces, (not covered in CAD I) and had some success. Here are some of the models I’ve been working on.
Field Trip!

Over the break, I got to visit Good Vibrations in San Francisco. It’s a wonderful store with a very friendly, open atmosphere, and plenty of helpful staff to answer your questions. I focused on materials and packaging during the trip, as these are some of the next steps for my product development. In particular, ABS plastic with a “velvety” coating is something that I’d like to look into. I wonder whether this coating will still allow for a recyclable product in the long term? And how would its longevity compare to silicone?
I also saw some products which I had not encountered before, including the Vanity line by Jopen. This is an extensive series of well-considered silicone vibes in some very beautiful organic forms. Lovely! They have an intelligent control system as well- each button has an led which indicates whether it is on or off. Very clear.
